I'm Bored: finding family fun

Social engagement face off is far from boring

Applications (apps), are becoming an indispensable part of everyday life. No surprise then that a new app, which consolidates family-friendly information for a variety of events, activities and services is racking up social media numbers.
I’m Bored’, developed by mother and serial software innovator, Lorraine Steyn, is available on Facebook and Android. It is a FREE listing service for organisers and marketers to promote their events and activities directly to a captive audience, who can, also for free, access the information when and how they want.
Since launching officially at the beginning of December, I’m Bored has recorded over a thousand downloads and boasts over 21,000 Facebook fans. While it offers much needed information to families that are hungry for things to do together, the analytics behind the site are also delivering some interesting insights into South Africans internet habits.

According to Lorraine,  Gautengers are more socially engaged than their counterparts in the I’m Bored Cape Town region. The majority of views/interactions with the Facebook pages happens between Monday and Friday, and start as early as 06H00. Lorraine says the numbers dip slightly between 09H00 and 12H00 before steadily picking up again and then eventually going quiet after 21h00. “We are seeing a high rate of engaged parents accessing the portals throughout the week. This shows us that the planning of quality family experiences has become an important agenda item,” commented Lorraine. “This is why an app like ‘I’m Bored’ is so well received... it meets a demand very precisely."

People are discovering new venues through our app and it is the smaller, less known places like the water slides in Somerset West, or the steam train ride in Magaliesburg, that get the most interest. To download the I’m Bored app or to list your event for FREE, go to www.imbored.co.za
